UN PEU ENERVANT, NON? A LITLE ANNOYING, RIGHT?

I find irritating, especially as it’s unfounded, the far too common generalisation that regroups microfinance actions as a kind of exercise in cheap banking, with undertones of a cottage industry, representing the friendly face of the financial mainstream.

First, let’s not forget that this is one of the oldest professions in the world (...)

Seriously, when we observe the practices of MFIs we find true professionalisms: in the depth of customer relationships and knowledge of their environment, in the perception of the strengths and weaknesses of their projects, in the adequacy of funding and in the methods of verification, monitoring and recovery.

As a former banker, I wonder if we should not draw on some specifics of microfinance in order to feed a process of reflection and innovation into the ways we do this job?

MICROFINANCE IS NOT SMALL FINANCE!
